1. Bright colors – I've seen a lot of purple, red, electric blue, and orange on the runway this season, particularly at the Dior, Victoria Beckham, Versace, Miu Miu and Balmain shows. After staying at home for over a year, I suspect people are looking to channel their enthusiasm at getting back out into the world by switching from neutrals and cosy fits to dressier and more vibrant options. Our lower halves might be a bit wider after the lockdown, but at least they’ll be colorful!
2. Continuing with this trend, I've also noticed a significant increase in the usage of sequins, metallic elements, and sparkles post-lockdown, most notably at the Prada, Paco Rabanne, Dries Van Noten, Amina Muaddi, and Jimmy Choo shows. Break out your disco balls and see you on the dance floor!
3. Over the past several seasons, I've noticed that skinny jeans seem to be fading in popularity, while looser-fitting, street style clothing with front pleats and darker, true indigo denims are taking their place. The jury is out on whether this is an actual trend, or if we’re just having trouble fitting into everything now (insert same joke from above here), but it remains to be seen if this will have as much staying power as skinny jeans did!
4. Mini skirts are a classic staple, but I feel like they’ve been neglected over the past few cycles, and now they're making a comeback with a vengeance! I saw a healthy number with Miu Miu, Prada, Versace, Lanvin, and Fendi, among many others shows, but in a new twist, they're mostly being paired with chunky knits, masculine blazers and military style boots or platforms. I'm definitely a fan of this trend.
5. Knits have had a solid popularity over the past several seasons, and this growth shows no signs of subsiding. Aside from classic sweaters and cardigans, you can now see plenty of knit pants, skirts, bags, maxi dresses, arm warmers, ponchos, and underwear. I particularly like knits from Chloe, Proenza Schouler, Fendi and Gabriela Hearst.
